Have you ever burnt a bridge and realized shortly afterwards that you needed to use it desperately to traverse your next path? Have you ever stared so long at the broken bridge that your sight is obscured of all signs to the new bridge that impatiently awaits you? Bridges are usually used to connect regions, districts, and various communities and so forth. Without a bridge there would be a disconnection between these areas and some physical spaces. For instance, the Paradise bridges connect that island to New Providence in the Bahamas.
Thankfully, “discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” Jim Rohn. Discipline therefore can be the connecting device from goals and aspirations to our attainment. Now, how well-structured or poorly-built the bridge is can determine our trek or traverse over this bridge. It is no wonder then that the late Jim Rohn coined the phrase “discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”. Undoubtedly, he spoke from experience about his crossing over the bridge of life. As a motivational speaker, Jim Rohn often professed success by focused determination. He never just had goals; he made a conscientious effort to construct a state-of-the-art bridge to assist with his treacherous plodding across life’s bridge. That determination and focused approach morphed into what he deemed as discipline.
So, this seemingly simple word, discipline is magnanimous! It is that huge source of determination that gets things done. First, you have to acquire self-discipline; that sacrifice beyond what and how you feel like behaving most of the times. That sense of control and restraint that dictates what needs to be done attain success. Discipline is that colossal concept that propels you to achieve your dream even when you are smothered by the excuses to give up.
This therefore leaves me compelled to assent to the view that the overpass between your objectives and triumph. Indeed, agreeing with this perspective is made easy by my personal experience of trekking, jogging, marching, plodding, trudging, sailing across, flying yet sometimes crawling like a snake over life’s bridge. The crosswalk has neither been a bed of roses nor a walk in the park. It certainly has not been heaven on earth!!! Nonetheless, discipline has been my sustaining force. Discipline has been my bridge over the troubled waters of turbulent times. Discipline has been the buffer of the tempestuous waves/sail/billows that so frequently toss me off course. Discipline continues to be the rainbow that faithfully appears after each storm.
Indeed, without the protective gear of discipline, goals would be long inundated and obliterated by the enemies’ delights. Discipline has most definitely provided that scaffold from those maximum sustained winds in life. So, what has been your bridge over troubled waters? What has been your cooler for the infernos of your life? And as Jim asked, what has been your bridge between your goals and achievements? What and how firmly has been your anchor from your ambition to your success?
