Hooray! It’s all over! It’s a new moment! It’s a new day! It’s a new month! It’s a new year! I am definitely, positively going to follow my resolutions this year! Do you hear similar utterances around this time of the year? What are some of the other sentiments shared?

Undoubtedly, these are some of the comments and sentiments expressed by many people at this time of the year. It is a time of retrospect and introspection. It is a time of soul-searching; a time to make amends and concede to the regrets. More importantly it is a time to plan, to make projections as to what we aspire for the ensuing calendar year. I am definitely and positively going to follow my resolutions this year!

So, what did you accomplished last year? Were your goals smart ones or were they random and disorganized? How did you accomplish them? Why did you not achieve some of the proposed goals? How did your health factor into enhancing or restricting you from attaining those goals? By the way, how did your enthusiasm play out in your orchestral year? Did you definitely and positively follow your resolutions last year? How about those planned for the ensuing year?

Talking about enthusiasm, that is what I would love to inspire from the get-go.

Get up! Shake up! Firm up! Sit up! Stand up! Keep up with the resolutions that serve you well! Or, go ahead, change to those that work perfectly for you! Just do it! The days, weeks, months, years are rolling by and life, though a game, can be unfair. You have to strike that chord with which you can resonate.

Look up! And play up! You’ve got to play those cards dealt to you this year. You cannot play someone else’s hand. Yes, you may peek at someone else’s cards; you may wish to have some of somebody’s cards; you may wish to lounge on somebody else’s lawn, but at the end of the day, you have to play your hand.

So, you might as well become enthusiastic! Excitement or enthusiasm is what will calm the treacherous waters that might billow your way this year. The important goal is to maintain the enthusiasm and positivity instead of just sporting these traits on the first couple days of the year. Norman Vincent Peale, in his book The Power of Positive Thinking, cited several people who maintained their zest for life long after they would have travelled over the hill. One particular lady comes to mind.

Peale wrote about Dame Edith Evans, by whose performance he was smitten, though he had perceived her to be well over eighty years old. Can you imagine? At that age, the actress mesmerized him with her enthusiasm. He went on to describe her as being perpetually and perennially ecstatic! Of course, as he conversed with her, he could not have been more delighted to learn that she simply did not think about her age but just lived! She was definitely and positively enthusiastic!

How about adopting such positive attitude this year? Wouldn’t that be wonderful! Couldn’t that eliminate some of the headaches, sorrows and distress that we might face? On the one hand, so many people have testified about the benefits of remaining or becoming positive. On the other hand, some people continue to wallow in self-pity; always having a sad story to tell.

What is your sad story for not making some positively solid goals today? What is your excuse for not acquiring the requisite enthusiasm to conquer your goals this year? What is your reason for not executing unfulfilled goals forwarded to this year? And, what are your plans to strive for novel ones? If we were to eliminate the word “resolutions”, could we replace it with “standing up for what is best for you?” Will you definitely and positively stand up for what is best for you this year?

Well, as you resolve to do just that, why not also adopt one of Peale’s advices?

Among the nine aspects of the Excitement Principle, Peale advised that we maintain and constantly renew our enthusiastic spirit, which will banish any lack of motivation we might acquire.

Get up! Shake up! Firm up! Sit up! Stand up! Be enthusiastic! Get excited! Most importantly – do YOU! Do not frivolously make “resolutions”, simply stand up for what is best for you!

Just do it! Hooray! It’s all over for 2017! It’s a new day; a new outlook; it’s a new me! I am definitely, positively going to pursue what is best for me!

Don’t forget to subscribe! Looking forward to hearing from you!
